The Consumer Advocate is located within the Iowa Insurance Division. The Consumer Advocate can assist consumers in the areas of insurance, securities, and regulated industries. In conjunction with other areas of the Insurance Division, the goal of the Consumer Advocate is to achieve the consumers' best interests pursued through policy, outreach, complaint assistance, and administrative actions.

Proposed 2012 Wellmark Rate Increase

Warning Sign

Wellmark has filed a rate increase request with the Iowa Insurance Division for its individual health insurance policies on subscribers under the age of 65 for 9.35%, effective on April 1, 2012.

Comments were accepted for consideration by the Commissioner by calling the Consumer Advocate for Insurance at 877-955-1212 or electronically via this link A public hearing was held December 10, 2011 by the Iowa Insurance Commissioner on the proposed rate increase.

Request Assistance With Your Health Insurance Claim Denial Appeal

If you would like assistance with a health insurance appeal or review, submit an email to insuranceca@iid.iowa.gov. The following information must be provided for timely and accurate assistance:

- Your name, address and phone number

- The name of your insurance company

- Your insurance policy number

- The date of your claim denial

- The reason for your claim denial
