What is the Insurance Consumer Advocate?

The Insurance Consumer Advocate was created by statue in 2008 as part of the Consumer Advocate Bureau to work in the areas under the authority of the Iowa Insurance Division. These areas include insurance, securities, and regulated industries. The Iowa State Legislature created the Consumer Advocate Bureau to

• ensure the fair treatment of consumers and
• prevent unfair or deceptive trade practices.

Simply put the Consumer Advocate is here to try to assist and represent Iowa consumers in all areas of insurance, securities, and regulated industries.

What Does the Consumer Advocate Bureau Do?

The Consumer Advocate Bureau assists mainly in four areas:

• Outreach and Education
• Policy
• Reviewing Complaints
• Administrative Actions
